  • The twentyfirst Very Informal Gathering of Logicians (VIG 21) was held at UCLA from Friday, February 10 to Sunday February 12, 2023, in celebration of Tony Martin's 80th birthday.   • The twentieth Very Informal Gathering of Logicians (VIG 20) was held at UCLA from 2:00 PM, Friday, February 1 to 1:00 PM, Sunday, February 3, 2019, in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 1967-68 Logic Year at UCLA and the many influences it had in Mathematical Logic.   • The UCLA Logic Center hosted the sixteenth Very Informal Gathering of logicians (VIG 16) at UCLA on February 4 - 6, 2011, in honor of Yiannis Moschovakis on the occasion of his formal retirement from UCLA. The program for this meeting can be found here.

  • We are sad to report that Greg Hjorth died on Thursday, January 13, 2011, in his home in Melbourne, from a sudden heart attack. Greg came to UCLA in 1995 and has had a deep and permanent impact on research and the teaching of logic in his sixteen years on our faculty. Greg was only 47 when he died, and his loss at such a young age was a tragedy and a shock to us all. A brief obituary for Greg can be found in the Mathematics Department Home page.

    The recent VIG 16 (see here) began with an In Memoriam session honoring both Greg and Herb Enderton, who died on October 20, 2010 after a long association with UCLA and the Association for Symbolic Logic. This was followed by a special lecture by Alexander Kechris on Hjorth's work.

  • The UCLA Logic Center held a public symposium on The Convergence of Logic, Mathematics, and Computer Science, featuring Martin Davis, Michael Rabin, and Moshe Vardi, on Thursday, 30 April, 2009. The symposium talks are available for download through iTunes U.
