  • We are sad to report that Greg Hjorth died on Thursday, January 13, 2011, in his home in Melbourne, from a sudden heart attack. Greg was only 47 when he died, and his loss at such a young age was a tragedy and a shock to us all. A brief obituary for Greg can be found in the Mathematics Department Home page.

The recent VIG 16 (see here) began with an In Memoriam session honoring both Greg and Herb Enderton, who died on October 20, 2010 after a long association with UCLA and the Association for Symbolic Logic. This was followed by a special lecture by Alexander Kechris on Hjorth's work.
